Let’s face it: We the People got our asses kicked.
We the People have to acknowledge what’s happened over the past fifty or so years. We got out smarted, out planned, out worked, and out played. While I despise the notion of “us vs. them,” we can all acknowledge that this is the world we’re in. There is a they and they kicked our butts.
They had a plan that included not just what they wanted, but how to get it. They didn't argue about it or discuss it with those who might disagree. They simply put their heads down and built a plan, laid the groundwork, and pounced when the opportunity was there.
This was not an accident. And our next steps can't be left up to chance either.
Many of us got caught up in debating whether or not they could actually pull it off. They didn't care. Those of us who believed them when they told us what they were going to do sounded the alarms. They didn't care. They figured it out and went and did it. And that’s what we have to do.
We can't just compile a list of demands and hand it off to someone to make manifest. There is no office of "That's Not Fair!" who's going to intervene on behalf of We the People. It’s up to those of us who believe in justice and equality and opportunity and, well, fairness. We have to figure it out ourselves, make a plan, lay the groundwork, and create the opportunity to make it happen.
It's not easy. But neither was Project 2025. And as much most of us hate it, it can be the blueprint for a future nation that we’ll be proud to hand off to future generations. But we have to do it. We the People.
I don't have the answers. Hell, I don't understand all the questions. But somebody does. So let's divide up the work and put a plan together. Let's figure out what fair housing should look like, then lay out the steps to make it happen — all the steps. Let's figure out how to make the rights guaranteed in our constitution available to all. If they're not currently protected, let's make a plan to amend the constitution to guarantee them. Let's figure out what economic fairness looks like and the steps to make that happen.
Screaming into the void will not get us there. Rising up in righteous indignation at how badly we got our assess kicked isn't going to fix it. Certainly fighting amongst ourselves over who’s to blame for letting this happen isn’t going to help. We have to stand together and go fix this. We have to do it. We the People.
I don't know how to do all this but I'm all in to help figure it out. Heck, I'll go start a document and share it so we can all kick in. We'll bring in the people who do understand all the complex questions -- and solutions -- and they'll fill in their parts.
But we can’t just make this plan to hand off to current politicians to go fix it for us. We have to be the ones to make the plan and then go execute it. Some of us may need to run for office. Others of us will research solutions or write our parts of the plan. But most of us will need to be the ones on the ground, writing proposed laws, preparing executive orders, organizing communities…whatever the steps are to make our vision reality.
We won't argue or discuss it with those who might disagree. We won’t argue about why it won’t work. We’ll find a way to make it work. We have to. No one else will do it for us. We'll just have to put their heads down and build a plan, lay the groundwork, and make the opportunity to pounce.
But we have to do it. We the people.
I’m all in. Are you?
